Mature Drivers Get Insurance Discounts for Completing Driver Education Online

taking driver education courses onlineAccording to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration on Aging, the senior population represents more than 12% of the entire U.S. population. These figures are expected to significantly increase through 2030 as millions of Generation Xers start turning 50 within the next two years. This shift in population towards a more mature society means people will be driving longer too.

In an effort to help mature drivers improve their driving skills many insurance carriers offer discounts of up to 15% for completing a driver education program that is approved in their state. In fact, insurance carriers are required by law to provide these drivers ed discounts in California and Colorado. Driving courses can be completed online allowing drivers to take them at their own pace in a fun and interactive learning environment. While mature driving programs are primarily geared to those 55+ years of age, there are also adult driving courses available for anyone 18 and older.

Also, California for example, requires drivers to periodically complete a written test to renew their driver’s license. If a person fails their renewal written test they will have an opportunity to retake it up to three additional times. In addition, the DMV can require anyone applying for or renewing their driver’s license to take a behind the wheel driving test at any time as a condition of renewal. Completing an online drivers education program can help reduce the stress and anxiety that many seniors have when it is time to renew their license by giving them the knowledge they need to successfully pass the renewal test and keep their driver’s license.

More importantly, these online driver education courses help individuals to improve their driving skills and become a safer driver. Satisfactorily completing a driver education program and putting the skills they learn into practice on the road will also help prevent accidents and tickets.
